MultiAd video ad units

MultiAd is a Dejacast player setup that allows multiple ad request series during an in-article video

In MultiAd mode, the player will constantly attempt to serve ads by a defined strategy in the MultiAd config, involving retry intervals and retry attempts.

Configuring MultiAd using Dejacast Dashboard​

  • Step 1: Login using your account credentials into Dejacast Dashboard, that can be accessed at app.dejacast.com
  • Step 2: Navigate to Settings > Players and choose the player you want to configure. Make sure Allow advertising is enabled
  • Step 3: On the Edit Player page, use the top navigation bar to go to Advertising, scroll down to OmniFocus. Select In-article MultiAd and turn on Enable MultiAd. The Standard Ads will be disabled, as pre-roll / mid-roll / post-roll will be overwritten by more frequent MultiAd attempts.
    • Add one or multiple VAST URLs
    • If multiple Ad Tag URLs will be configured for MultiAd, the player will always request or fallback to the next URL in the list, until a valid ad is received and displayed.
  • Step 4: Set up “Interval between two successive ads” to configure the number of seconds the player should wait before requesting new ads after the previous ad ended (minimum 5 seconds).
  • Step 5: Set up "Interval between two ad request retries" to configure the number of seconds the player should wait before retrying to request ads or fallback to the next ad URL in the list, after a previously failed ad request (minimum 0.1 seconds).
  • Step 6: Set up "Maximum number of ad retries" (minimum 5) to configure the maximum number of times the player will retry an ad URL or list - if multiple ad URLs are configured. If the maximum number of retries for the ad URL or the ad URL list is reached, the player will wait for the "Interval between two successive ads" and then start requesting the ads again, by the same strategy. Meanwhile, the player will continue playing the content.
  • Step 7: You can enable “Allow fallback after reaching maximum ad retries” to let the player switch to the next available ad source once the maximum number of retries has been reached. This ensures ad playback continues seamlessly without interrupting the main content.
  • Step 8: Click Save Ads

Using front-end script​

The Video Player Embed Script exposes an invokePlayer function that allows you to initialize the video player with a specific VAST URL that will be requested first, ahead of any other configured ad URLs.

Usage:

  • Configure the player with MultiAd, according to Step 3 above
  • Call the invokePlayer function when the embed script onload event fires:

Parameters:​

  • ad_url is the VAST URL of the ad to be requested first when the player is initiated
  • cust_params <optional> an URL encoded string that will be added to the "cust_params" flag of the ad request
