Subtitles

Add subtitles to your videos to make them accessible and to reach viewers in other languages. You can upload your own subtitle files, generate a transcript with AI, and translate subtitles into other languages with AI.

Availability

The Subtitles tab appears on the video page only if subtitles are enabled for your account. Contact [email protected] to enable it.

To manage the subtitles of a video, open the video from the Media Library and select the Subtitles tab.

Add a subtitle

Under Add New Subtitle, choose a subtitle type in Select subtitle type:

Upload a WebVTT file

  1. Select Upload a WebVTT file.
  2. Select the language of the subtitle.
  3. Choose your .vtt file and click Add.

AI Transcript

  1. Select AI Transcript.
  2. Click the AI Transcript button.

Dejacast transcribes the audio of the video and detects the spoken language automatically. The result becomes the video's default subtitle. Transcription runs in the background, so the subtitle shows as Processing until it's ready.

tip

To transcribe all new videos of a publisher automatically, turn on Auto Speech-to-Text for the publisher. See Adding a Publisher.

AI Translate

  1. Select AI Translate.
  2. In Translate from, choose an existing subtitle of the video.
  3. In Translate into, choose the target language.
  4. Click AI Translate.

The translated subtitle is added to the list when it's ready.

AI Translate is available once the video has at least one subtitle. While an AI transcript or translation is processing, you can't start another one of the same type.

The subtitles list

ColumnDescription
LanguageThe language of the subtitle.
Default subtitleYes for the subtitle generated by AI Transcript in the video's original language.
TypeUploaded, AI Transcript or AI Translate.
StatusActive subtitles are available to viewers. Inactive ones are hidden. Processing means the subtitle is still being generated.
warning

If AI Transcript detects a language that already has an uploaded or translated subtitle, the list shows a warning. Keep the version you want: if you prefer the AI transcript, delete the other version and run AI Transcript again. Otherwise, remove the AI transcript.

Edit a subtitle

  1. Click Edit on the subtitle's row.
  2. The editor shows the video next to the list of Timestamps. Click a timestamp to jump to that moment in the video, and correct the text in Subtitle content.
  3. Use the Status subtitle switch to make the subtitle active or inactive.
  4. Click Save Changes.

To remove a subtitle, click Delete on its row.
