Adding a Publisher
The first thing you need to do after creating your Dejacast account is add your first Publisher. Every show, video and live stream in Dejacast belongs to a publisher, so you need at least one before you can upload content or go live.
Only account administrators can see the Publishers menu and create or edit publishers.
Create a new publisher
- Go to Publishers → All Publishers and click Add new publisher.
- Fill in the fields described below.
- Click Add new publisher. You are taken back to the publishers list, where the new publisher appears.
Name
The publisher's display name, for example the name of your website or TV station.
The name can contain only letters (a–z), numbers (0–9), spaces and hyphens (-). Other special characters, including accented letters, are not accepted.
Slug
As you type the name, Dejacast suggests a slug: the name in lowercase, with spaces replaced by hyphens. For example, My TV Station becomes my-tv-station. If that slug is already taken, a number is added (my-tv-station-1).
You can edit the suggested slug before saving. The slug is checked as you type, and an error is shown if it is already in use or contains characters other than letters, numbers, spaces and hyphens.
The publisher slug is used in API calls and in the URLs of thumbnails, video assets and playback for all of the publisher's content. Once the publisher is created, the slug cannot be changed. Choose a short, permanent value. Lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens work best.
Description
Optional. An internal description of the publisher.
Active
On by default. When a publisher is inactive, all of its shows and videos are inactive too.
Recording Available
When on, the publisher's live stream is recorded, so you can create video clips from it, either automatically from the TV Schedule / EPG or manually in the Recording Editor. Recordings are kept for a limited time (4 days by default).
Live Stream Transmission
Turn this on if the publisher has a live channel that is broadcast through Dejacast. A live publisher can be embedded with the live stream player and restreamed to platforms such as YouTube, Facebook or Twitch with Live to Social.
When you turn it on, the Live Slug field appears.
Live Slug
The slug of the publisher's live stream. It is filled in automatically with the publisher slug, which is what you will want in most cases. It is required when Live Stream Transmission is on, must be unique, and follows the same character rules as the publisher slug.
Auto Speech-to-Text
When on, an AI transcription is generated automatically for every new video uploaded to this publisher. Videos that already exist are not transcribed unless you trigger transcription for them manually.
Recording Available, Live Stream Transmission and Auto Speech-to-Text are set up by the Dejacast team, because they depend on your plan and on how your live signal is delivered. If you need any of them turned on or off, contact [email protected].
Edit a publisher
To change a publisher's settings, go to Publishers → All Publishers and click the publisher's name, or click the ⋮ menu on its row and choose Edit publisher. From the same menu, See publisher shows opens the list of the publisher's shows.
The publisher page has four tabs:
| Tab | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Publisher Info | The publisher's general and live stream settings (described below). |
| Thumbnail | The preview image shown in the player for the live stream. See Publisher Thumbnail. |
| Custom metadata | Metadata fields added to every new video of this publisher. See Default Custom Parameters. |
| News Reel Config | Automatically generated news reel videos. See News Reel. |
After making changes in the Publisher Info tab, click Save changes.
Publisher Info settings
Besides the fields you filled in when creating the publisher, the Publisher Info tab shows:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Slug | Read-only. Set when the publisher was created. |
| ID | The publisher's unique ID, used in API requests. Click the copy button to copy it to your clipboard. |
| Live preview | If the publisher has a live stream, a player with the current live signal is shown. |
| Blackout | Available for publishers with a live stream. Turning it on blacks out the live stream immediately, and it stays blacked out until you turn it off. Changes can take up to 30 seconds to reach viewers. |
| Active | Turning a publisher off immediately takes its live streams, shows and videos offline. |
| Record Ingested Stream | Same as Recording Available above. Recording is not available for Virtual Channel publishers. |
| Shows Idle Period | How many minutes to wait (0–1440) before Dejacast starts encoding shows recorded from the TV Schedule. Use this time to edit the recording, for example to cut out ads, before the show is published. The default is 0, so encoding starts right away. |
| Live Stream Transmission / Stream Slug | Whether the publisher has a live stream, and its live slug. The live slug cannot be edited here. |
| Stream Type | How the live channel is delivered: Live Linear Ingest, Live Linear UDP (both true linear channels), or Virtual Channel (a channel played out from a playlist of your videos). |
| Anti-Piracy Watermark | Identifies customers who retransmit your live stream. See Anti-Piracy Watermark. |
| Auto Speech-to-Text | Automatic AI transcription of new videos, described above. |
Settings that are managed by Dejacast (recording, live stream transmission, stream type, watermark and Auto Speech-to-Text) are shown as locked switches. Hover over a switch to see how to request a change.
Anti-Piracy Watermark
The Anti-Piracy Watermark helps you find and stop customers who retransmit your live stream without permission, for example by restreaming it on another website or sharing their access.
When the watermark is on, the player periodically shows the viewer's unique stream token over the live stream, at a random position on the screen. Each customer's stream session has its own token, so if your channel appears somewhere it shouldn't, the token in the retransmitted picture tells you which session it comes from.
You can set:
- Duration (seconds): how long the token stays on screen each time (5 seconds by default).
- Frequency (seconds): how long to wait between two appearances (60 seconds by default).
The watermark is shown only on live streams, not on on-demand videos.
Block a customer who retransmits your stream
- Note the token shown in the retransmitted stream.
- Search for it in Block customer stream on your OTT platform's Customers page. See Block a customer stream.
- Block the stream session, or block the customer.
The Anti-Piracy Watermark is enabled by the Dejacast team. To turn it on or change its duration and frequency, contact [email protected].
Next steps
- Add a show to the publisher.
